The bathroom rituals of an adult human male have no doubt opportuned many meaningful, if not repetitive, conversations. The ‘efficiency vs. consideration’ debate will most likely not be resolved in the near future. However, until such time I am happy to share my own experience of this recurring debate in the form of contemporary adornment.
These works were exhibited/destroyed by nature in an abandoned bathroom in my neighbourhood in Chiang Mai, Thailand in May 2014. The combination of the pressing issue at hand, a means to express it and an available space resulted in a guerrilla-style exhibition entitled ‘Where Shit Goes Down’- A Contemporary [Urban Art] Jewellery Exhibition with pieces made from a found toilet seat and empty toilet rolls.
Chiang Mai experienced an earthquake and heavy rains a few days after the exhibition was installed. The paper based pieces didn't make it. The toilet seat still stands.
